LX Garden and Cats

Friday, April 10, 2009

It's been a while since I've posted a series of pics, so here we go :D enjoy

A tree

Same tree, can you spot the spider?

One of my favorite plants, some leaves are the size of my hand

My mom has a lot of these in different areas of the garden, and depending of the light they get are the color they have. From light green, to purple greenish to a darker green.

Bird of Paradise, until recently I finally saw the bird resemblence

My cousins cat.

The one, the only, bipolar cat on my favorite blanket

A cat can also be man's best friend.

It's pretty amazing how things happen, a little while ago, I was sad (I'm feeling better, thanks), too much thinking really hit me, wait... I think I need to go back a little...

My bro went back to Mexicali because of some work he had to do, his cat is staying with us for the rest of the week. Whoever has met this little feline knows that this is not your typical cat, she meows in the most bizarre way, she doesn't like to be petted much less carried, she doesn't like strangers (and if they are cat owners, she goes berserk). My cousin calls her devil cat, I sometimes call her bipolar cat. And for some reason she likes my room and my favorite blanket, so she sleeps on it.

Going on, I was feeling down, and started to cry, got out of bed and planning on listening to some music and drawing (that always helps me). The curious thing is that she got up, and sat on my lap (she only has done that once, she was a small kitten) and purred until I calmed down. Then she just stared at me, then jumped off and got back to being her hyperactive old self again.

Thanks bipolar cat :)

A new take on old classics...

A modern version of Little Red Riding Hood... thanks to Cubeecraft... Enjoy!

Just in case you were curious...

Today I came across a web page containing a really good documentary called The Pixar Story, I had the privilege of seeing it in Siggraph last year. It's a true inspiration. If you are a fan of Pixar films, I highly recommend you watch it.

The downside is that when you reach 72 minutes the web page will make you wait a little while to continue, but believe me it's really worth it.

I found it online though Documentalizate and it's in spanish.

The documentary was directed by Lesly Iwerks.

Enjoy!

Sunday, April 05, 2009

Well spring break is here, and that brought my family together again (at least for a week) including the cat, poor thing, she got carsick on the way (she didn't barf but she would lay in her little bed and kept meowing at us)... anyways that's not the point... two days ago we noticed a hummingbird made a nest in our porch... it's sooo cool and small :D I'll share some pics soon...

today's drawing is in honor of the unexpected visitor...

Change your heart

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Hello everyone it's been a while since I've posted music, so here we go :D

If you saw Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (and if you haven't I highly recommend it even if it sounds like a cliche). Anyway, in the beginning sequence you hear this lovely song performed by Beck called Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime, from what little I could find online, the song was launched by a band called The Korgis in 1980 (dosen't seem the typical 80's song), let's start with that version.

Now, let's jump to the Beck's mellow version

Zucchero also made his version.

And last but not least (and I know it's not the only cover you can find, but its the last cover I've heard), a version by Krezip (which was actually the version that made me think of this post), I think this one is the cute version of them all :)

Ok, so, which version did you like the most? I think I'd go for Zucchero :)

From Zero to Hero

Friday, March 06, 2009

I just watched Slumdog Millionaire, I guess this would have been better before the Oscars haha, and I know that because of all the brouhaha this post isn't really necessary, so I'll keep it short.

This film was Directed by Danny Boyle (you got to love him for 28 days later, Trainspotting and Sunshine). Co-directed by Loveleen Tandan. The main characters where portrayed by Dev Patel and Freida Pinto.

Due to my lack of true inspiration (and if I send this to Draft it will never see the light of day) I'll just say, at first I totally sub estimated the film, the title didn't appeal to me and I didn't even bother to know who made it. After a while everyone was cheering for it, and eventually became the underdog for the Oscars and came out a winner. So I gave it the chance it deserved. And the verdict is: it's really good, and it deserves to be watched.

The story goes around this uneducated boy who ends up in Who wants to be a millionaire and actually starts winning. How does he know? Well, it's not what you think or at least, it wasn't what I expected. You'll get surprised, you'll be moved, I'm not sure if your laugh or cry (I don't remember laughing and I didn't cry), but in the end I recommend the movie. The story is good, and makes you cheer for the main character, so take a risk if you haven't seen it, Danny Boyle won't let you down ha ha. Enjoy!

Bueno the Bear

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

This made me laugh so much, I just had to share, Bueno the bear was made by Pendleton Ward, the same guy who brought us Adventure Time. Check out his web page for more info and weird doodles :) enjoy

LIX: Road, Fence and Kitty! Oh my!

Sunday, March 01, 2009

It's been a while since I've posted pics, I think its time I upload something or this will end up being Reviews of Movies and Videos blog, to avoid that, here are some of my latest pics and as you might have noticed in a previous post, there is a cat in the family, and we are all pretty fond of her, so, we bother her and take loads of pics ha ha.

Higway 94, being more specific Tecate/San Diego.

Rusted Metal Fence, I really really liked this pic.

Don't bother me look.

Sleepy time.

Still snoozing.

That ain't my kid

I saw the Changeling the other day and I had to write about it.

Let's start from the beginning, this movie was directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Angelina Jolie, Michael Kelly, John Malkovich, among others.

Now, if you are a fan of Eastwood's work as a director, I think this movie will not disappoint you, but be warned its going to be a bumpy ride.

The first time my dad saw the trailer, he couldn't believe Angelina was the woman on screen. To be sincere, I'm not a big fan, but I think that she really pulls off the character.

The plot goes around a mother that reports her missing son and how the police gives her another boy. I don't want to spoil (as always) so I won't go any further. Yet I do share that it gets a little intense. Eastwood does a really good job on getting you involved in the film. In my case, let's just say I had to practice a few breathing exercises during the film because I was getting stressed out (in a good way, I don't know if that exists ha ha, what I'm trying to say is that I got stressed just by imagining how I would feel in her shoes).

And, just in case you are Jolie fan, I think that she looks gorgeous, I loved 20's/30's fashion and the hats, oh you gotta love the hats :D!

Ok, that's enough, I say that if you are in a dramatic mood and want a little mystery, this is a good flick to catch.

What if she never dates?

Okidoki, I just finished watching 10 things I hate about you, starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (to name a few), I know, its a teen flick sorta heading to the chick flick scene, but its actually good, the movie came out in 1999 and until now I decided to go for it.

Again, its a teen flick, so don't expect a great memorable movie, yet, I admit, I liked it, and I even think it made it to my fave teen flick films.

Digging a little deeper, the plot goes around two sisters with opposite ways of thinking, and the only way a guy can date one of them is if the other girl goes out, don't freak out, I haven't said anything that you wouldn't find out in the first 15 minutes of the movie (trust me, I checked). The movie is filled with cliches (that is expected). Yet it does have it's high points, it has good music, guys could get some clever ideas on how to enchant a girl and its pretty entertaining. I think it's a good couch potato weekend flick that takes your mind of everyday stuff and takes you back to when your only worry was if he/she knew that you liked him/her.

So go out there and feel like a teenager again ha ha, enjoy!

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Wow, it's been a while that this blog exists, and now we have reached 600 posts. Thank you all for reading and giving me a reason to share more stuff, because if I knew no one read it, I wouldn't go on with this. So thank you.

Changing the subject to the idea of what this post was about.

Today, I would like to share a speech by Harvey Milk (yes, there was a movie made and it just won Oscars :P, but this is a real speech from the real person), some of you may not agree with the homosexuality topic, I beg you to look a little farther than judging and just take 1:53 minutes of your time, personally, I think we all need to believe that if one person can make a difference, we have the power to do so as well, and that a little hope can make this world a better place.

Thanks NOTCOT.org for the video.

Creepy Radio

Friday, February 20, 2009

I was about to go to bed, when I remembered that I also wanted to mention another movie, its a weird thriller called Frequency, came out in 2000, directed by Gregory Hobbit, wait, I mean Hoblit (couldn't help myself, my bad), starring Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel.

I know what you might be thinking, but bear with me, I know the name doesn't say much, I won't get into details or I will totally spoil the movie, the main concept is, there is a guy who can talk to his dead father through a radio, THERE, haha, I know I know, its not much, but really, I recommend you watch it, it made me sit on the edge of my seat all through the movie making up theories on where the movie will go. In short its a good movie, be a little open minded, don't over analize (or you'll hate it), sit back, relax, and make up weird theories.

The performances are good to get you tangled in the movie, even with the fact that James Caviezel will always be The Count of Monte Cristo to me haha (which is another good movie, long, but very entertaining, anywho, going back). The director seems really into the cop thriller type movies with big actor names, I haven't seen any of them so I really can't suggest more.

Oh well, I liked it so there :P Enjoy!

Attack of another romantic comedy

Well I just finished watching "Two weeks notice", well, this time it's Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, yes, all his characters seem the same witty guy who always has the sarcastic or comical comment in the precise moment, but hey, this movie is special, I was going through movie possibilities and could not help myself going down memory lane.

The movie is the type that will make you smile, and at some point it might make you kinda giggle (you know, that half laugh that we all make when something kinda funny happens, yep, that one). It will not impact, you probably will feel a little frustrated with a character, but, I think I can say that its an easygoing film that will take your mind off the world for 101 minutes, and while you're at it, get some chinese take out, a warm blanket and enjoy the film.

Curious fact, this is film was written and directed by Marc Lawrence, he also wrote the Miss Congeniality series.

Blame Ringo

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Today I stumbled upon a curious band. The music is good, the name was the catch, I'm talking about Blame Ringo, here is the story:

"Originally billed as Goodnight Vienna, the band had to change its name in late 2007 after being threatened with legal action by a Mr Richard Starkey Jr. Apparently "Goodnight Vienna" was the name of Ringo Starr's forth studio album and, although Ringo thoroughly enjoyed the music, he was obligated to any profiteering which resulted from the use of his intellectual property."

It's an interesting way of sticking it to the man...

Here is a video featuring the first single Garble Arch, its about a day in Abbey Road, curious how many people try to portray the famous cover...

Want to know more? check out the band's page and listen to the music ;) enjoy!

Back to basics

Sometimes all we need is an invisible slap in the head to make you realize:

no, you don't know everything
no, you won't remember everything you supposedly learned in school
and no, you can't learn a whole chapter in 2 min (at least I can't).

Practice makes perfect, and this padawan needs patience T_T

I'll get there, even if it makes my brain go mushy, I will beat this

Overthinking...

Monday, February 16, 2009

It's true, you don't need a particular day to say I love you, to share a kiss or a hug, to receive flowers or gifts, still, it feels nice. And it doesn't have to be expensive gifts, fine dinning and rare flowers. To have a small reminder like valentine's day to break your daily habit and share a tender moment with your loved one is something nice, to learn from it and not just make it once a year is priceless ha ha...

Changing the subject drastically yet still stuck in the overthinking part...

Today an MSN contact had his blog address as a nickname, I admit, I was curious, so I went in, gosh, it felt like I was reading his diary, where he poured his heart and soul into, I didn't read much, it felt too personal... I know, the concept of a blog is to share with the world what you feel or think, free speech, I'm not going against it, on the contrary I cheer for it, hey! I have a blog!... but going back to the event... I just felt like I had walked into an open room filled with letters to a lost love, with pictures of special things, memories and felt guilty about it, eventhough the door was open for anyone to walk in, the owner even made a sign for people to notice it, yet I can't help to feel like I shouldn't have read it, like it was not my place to be there.

Weird? yes. Been thinking too much? absolutely. Should get back to my studies? I'd better.

Just wanted to share... has anyone been there before?

Another Movies movies movies...

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Well hello again... on my last post I promised two reviews and after seeing another heart moving girly movie I think its time to make amends... so here we go...

Down to you

This movie came out in 2000 but to me it was sooooo 90's, haha had to say it... Freddie Prince Jr. stars in it along with Julia Stiles, the movie basically takes you on the evolution of a relationship... the honeymoon period and so on... if you ever had a long term relationship there are things that you will feel moved by... i recomend this... it is full of cliches... but all in all... i think its good...

Sweet November

Well I'm amazed... just found out this is a remake... 1968 remake... hmmm... interesting... haha moving on... Neo... *cough* I mean Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron star in this one... I must confess that at first I couldn't stand the main characters... they were sooooo exagerated... but I still gave the movie a chance and well... I ended up almost crying with it... the plot goes around this big time advertising guy who ends up meeting this crazy hippish girl that turns his life upside down... it's not your tipical boy meets girl and the world is upside down type movie... trust me on this one... it has a special spin to it... that's all I'll say... or I'll end up spoiling and we dont want that... now do we?

Autumn in New York

Ahhhh Richard Gere... I don't care if that guy is old I think he is truly a handsome actor (bet you were expecting a comment like, ahhh I dont care if he's old I think he's hot... hahahaha! well no :P beat you to it)... and Winona Ryder... this movie almost made me cry as well... I think I'm really a sucker for chic flicks haha... anywho... the story follows two characters who fall in love... a rich ladies man, a simple yet enchanting young girl and how the phrase "All I'm able to offer you is this, nothing more until it ends" can have different meanings... I know I know... it dosen't sound unique... but... hey! trust me on this one... would I risk mentioning it on my previous post if it wasn't worth it? curious? go for it ;)

Well this is the end of the post... I hope you enjoy the movies as much as I did... I hope I didnt spoil any of them and got you curious into seeing at least one...

au revoir! ;)

something to think... something to feel...

Friday, November 21, 2008

Has a movie ever made you cry?

Not because of how sad it made you feel... but more like it moved you... made you feel a tad envious of what the character feels or how he or she shows his or her feelings...

and yes... I'm speaking of love...

call me a romantic... call me naive... or whatever you want... but you have to admit... being in love and loved for is something that we all long for... and the people who have had that or have it right now... know... that there is nothing like the feeling of being loved and accepted for who you are... not the way you look or the way people see you... but for you...

and are there for you... as you are there for them...

right now I finished seeing two movies... autumn in new york and sweet november... I will give the review one day... but for now... I had the urge to say it...

to be in love is the best thing in the world... to be able to smile and share your time and afection... to look forward to seeing that person... even if you saw him or her a few minutes ago... to dream of a future... it can be something simple... like going to eat... movies... on a trip... it dosent matter... as long as you are with that person...

to have your heart race when you think of something you shared... a joke... a smile... a hug... words... whatever you want....

i dare say that the beatles we right... you can have all the posesions in the world and still feel empty... and you can be poor but feel like the richest person in the world... in the end... all you need is love...

oh i love, oh i love, oh i love what you do to my head
oh i love, oh i love, oh i love what you do to my heart

now to bed... sleepy time...
if nothing made any sense... i blame that its 1 am, I'm sleepy and emotional haha

Movies movies movies...

Saturday, November 08, 2008

Well these past few days I've spent watching movies... so here are a few recommendations if you are completely bored...

first... the girly ones ha ha... sorry but I've been in a romantic comedy mood...

How to lose a guy in 10 days...

This one takes me back... it came out in 2003... starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey... directed by Donald Petrie...

It pretty much goes around on how bad a date can go and how much can one be patient... it get's mushy... buuuuuuuuuuut I know guys who lived through it... so it's not all lost ;P ha ha... I give it a good ol' 7 out of 10... it's a nice movie you probably won't remember when you think of your top 10 movies of all time... but I guarantee it will make you smile at least once... you choose if you give it a chance or not ;)

The Holiday

I was curious about this one since the first time I saw the trailer... it came out in 2006... starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black. Directed by Nancy Meyers (just found out she made What Women Want, also very recomendable).

Now I know, the combination of actors is kind of weird... but I gave it a chance today... and it almost made me cry... it's a really touching movie... especially if you have ever been in the "unrequited love" category... it makes you laugh... it almost made me cry... it lifts your spirits and makes you feel better (even if your heart isn't aching)... I loved Kate Winslet's character, the way she expresses herself... I dare say... that this is one new addition to my top 10 chick flicks :) most definetly... I give it a 8.5 out of 10 (its was a 9 but Cameron Diaz isn't an actress I'm very fond of... so it took some points away ha ha)... conclusion if you have the time and in the mood to watch a chick flick... I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...

Definetly, Maybe

This is a recent one... came out this year (2008)... starring Ryan Reynolds (I remember this guy from that old TV show Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place daaaaamn loooong time ago... can't believe it's been 10 years of that... too long)... also Abigail Breslin (the girl from Little Miss Sunshine), Elizabeth Banks (well I really didn't know who she was till I saw this movie, sorry), Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy)... directed by Adam Brooks (he wrote French Kiss (another cute chick flick I recommend) and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (hey! dont judge me <_< !)) Ok ok after a loooong actor and director section... we get to this... I'm sorry but it ain't a reaaaaaally great movie... It's entertaining and it has a new spin on how the story is told and evolves... but... well... I give it a 5.5 out of 10... the audience can get caught inside the movie... but it's pretty easy to get distracted... the main character is a guy... so we are seeing things from the guy's point of view... if you have no other thing to do... and already saw the holiday (ha ha) you could check this one out... Ok... we are done with the chick flicks... one more movie review and I'm heading to bed... Meet the Robinsons...

This movie was made by the Walt Disney Animation Studios (Pixar wasn't involved)... when I first heard about this movie... I was totally indifferent... felt like it was another Disney movie that wasn't going to make it... It didn't catch my eye... as hard as it tried... nope... wasn't interested... at all... buuuut... Sefe told me that he liked it... now curiosity was a good reason to watch it and suprisingly... its really good... maybe it was because I started watching it with 0 expectations (the speed racer effect I call it)... but I found it funny and really enjoyable... the villan is so great and the family is just crazy... I give it a 8... I would definetly watch it again... and if this review convinced you and you are considering seeing it... keep you're eyes open and you'll find hidden mickeys and cool stuff around ;) thats all I have to say about that...

Now before I go... animation wise... I think they started (the new name and image of the studio) with the right foot as they're first movie (they have to work really hard to stand out of Pixar's shadow in the 3D animation area... eventhough it's said that 2D is still going to be worked there)

Ok... that's enough for today... it's late and I'm sleepy...

I hope you enjoyed this and find at least one movie interesting... enjoy!

The super happy effect...

Te he preparado una porción. Me dice. Sabe que un desayuno no le niego, quizás una cena, mas nunca desayuno. Me acerco a él y me recargo un poco, sabe que es mi manera de decirle que me preocupa. No soy buena mostrando mis emociones. Compartimos el mismo problema.

La extraño, me dice.

Solo observo. No me atrevo a decirle nada.

Here and back again....

Love of my life

This is one of the ultimate "cut your wrist, put some salt and lemon on it and cry your eyes out" songs. First I'll leave the drawing and the cover (yes, a cover, and a good one too!) and then I'll get into some things I cannot (for my own sanity) keep out.

Well, this song breaks your heart without mercy, unfortunately or fortunately (you be the judge) I was listening to the non vocals mariachi version (yes, you read correctly, MARIACHI, and it rocked). So here, enjoy the song which inspired this drawing and after that we'll talk more :P

Oooook... now... where was I? Ah yes, now this song, to me (and this has always been a huuuge debate with Oscar) is best performed live with Bryan May, I know, Fredy is the bomb and he wrote it, but May gives it a little punch to the gut feeling when played live... Now... I do want to clarify that nothing NOTHING compares to the studio version... so let's check that one out... shall we?

Ok... now.. this next version was recorded on the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour... when I saw those guys and Bryan played it with his 12 string guitar, I WAS SO CLOSE TO CRYING, it was so beautiful, best performance EVER, unfortunately i had no way to record that, so I only have the memory...

Sooooooooooo ladies and gents... that was a mini class of "love of my life"... from Mariachi... to piano... to guitar... this song will always cut my heart out and serve it with powdered chilli... I hope it got to you as well... and if it didn't.... damn... you have no soul... jeje... enjoy and thank you for reading...

today's drawing was inspired by black bird performed by Evan Rachel Wood, this song is different to what Paul McCartney plays... but it's worth the listen...

Another reference to across the universe... if you haven't seen the movie... it's highly recommended...

black bird singing in the dead of night... enjoy...
