Ok being bored out of my mind and not being able to sleep, I found curious stuff that happened in the year I was born... here are some:

• January 19 - Hikaru Utada, Japanese singer and songwriter is born
  
• January 26 - Lotus 1-2-3 is released for IBM-PC compatible computers.
  
• March 1 - Swatch introduces their first watches.
• February 13 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan proclaims 1983 "The Year of the Bible" (*sigh* what is wrong with these people?)
• March 8 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan calls the Soviet Union an "evil empire." (and I thought that only Bush and Fox where the "leaders" that made dumb comments)
• March 23 - The Apatosaurus (once known as the Brontosaurus) is made the official state dinosaur of Guam (I didnt know this could be possible, so what's our official state dinosaur? ;P jeje)
• April 15 - The first non-American Disney theme park opens in Japan as Tokyo Disneyland (one of two disney parks not owned by disney)
  
• May 9 - Pope John Paul II retracts the ban on Galileo Galilei (it took them quite a while)
• May 16 - London police begin the use of wheel clamps on illegally-parked vehicles.
• May 25 - Return of the Jedi opens in the United States.
• June 13 - Pioneer 10 becomes the first manmade object to leave the solar system.
• July 15 - The Nintendo Entertainment System goes on sale in Japan
• July 25 - Metallica releases their debut album Kill 'Em All.
• September 27 - The GNU Project is announced publicly on the net.unix-wizards and net.usoft newsgroups.
• October 25 - Microsoft Word is first released.
• October 30 - The first democratic elections in Argentina after 7 years of military rule are held.
• November 17 - The Zapatista Army of National Liberation is founded.

Unknown exact date:

• McDonald's introduces the McNugget.
• The De Lorean Motor Company ceases production.
• Kellogg's introduces Crispix cereal.
